"The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp"

"The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp" is an oil painting by Rembrandt in 1632. Rembrandt's painting mirrors the secularist approach to learning during the Renaissance. Secularism is a way of thinking in a non-religious way. This painting was non-religious in subject matter. The people in the Renaissance started to inquire about the world around them. Instead of people accepting that God made everything, they started to look at the Ancient Greek and Roman studies to find other pieces of knowledge such as medicine. This painting shows the secularist approach to learning during the Renaissance because its showing the growth of scientific knowledge. It shows a group of medical specialists dissecting a body of a burglar who has "a cheap soul." The men were dissecting the arm to see how the muscles of the arms form and work. This shows a secularist approach because people started to discover by themselves other than accepting that fact that God made everything. This painting shows interest in the human body but other paintings mirror many other topics and facts that came alive during the Renaissance.

Driving Forces of the Renaissance

I believe that the driving forces of the renaissance was trade and banking because, when trade and banking was introduced people began to have more connection and it brought more knowledge. When someone trades with someone the person could experiment the item the other person traded.

This I Belive

During the past years I haven’t been focusing on my Homework and school. But I also have been determined to do better at the end of the school year. In every thing I usually do better at the end, even in sports, all I need is a person to encourage me and not pressure me. In football practice I used to be lazy and not in the mood of playing, but one day they chose the first team to go to a major tournament and I wasn’t in it. After that I started becoming into football and I went to every practice and worked my hardest, the good thing is that it was only the beginning of the year and I had a lot of time to improve.
I tried to do anything to get my self on the first team. During the end of the year there was a very major tournament in Sweden this was when they select the major team. I checked my e-mail and my name was on the list I was very happy I guess working hard is worth it. The bad thing was I couldn’t go to that tournament, but the good thing is that I knew I was determined and selected for the first team. This was only football. In school, it was the day when we receive our report cards for the second Trimester. I looked at my grades carefully and saw that I had worse grades than the first Trimester even PE.
I talked with my dad about my grades and I really wanted to improve, my dad encouraged me to do better he told me he would give me a good thing and he told me to choose what I wanted. When he sees that I’m determined to do better and when I start focusing he would start thinking of me as a man. I wanted to achieve my goal and choose something to get from my dad. I started focusing I started off with B’s and two C’s. My dad said he would only allow one C and the rest B or higher. Even though it was a little late in the Trimester I wanted to improve and achieve my new goal, since it was the end of the school year I didn’t have much time to achieve my second goal, which was to get only one C, and the rest higher, as Barack Obama said, “impossible is nothing”. It was very hard since it was the last week of school I was already on vacation mode, which was a problem for me, it takes me a while to switch from vacation mode to serious mode. I asked my dad if he can accept two C’s but even if I did get two C’s I think my dad wouldn’t be so mad at me because I had at least four C’s and from no D’s and two C’s that would be an achievement. All my hard work was a bit of practice for eighth grade, which I heard, is a very tough year. I believe in determination and I think every body should be determined to do there hardest and achieve something I did achieve my football goal and most of my school goal.

The Holocaust

I think it is right to take risks only if friends and maybe relatives help. They still saved the Jews, even though they knew hows risky it was and what the consequences might be. They took risks because there ancestors were protestants. Another interesting fact is if you just accept things the way they are you can definitely not improve. You should always stand up for what you believe in and never give up stand up for it until you have confirmed you victory. If you don't stand up for it the enemy will be the victorious one.

However, the consequences are terrible. You can go to jail, be prosecuted and killed. Prejudice and Bias are usually created when there is already a sense of resentment to the enemy but is helped to grow with the help of propaganda's, ignorance and fear. To over come Prejudice and Bias you need to stop being "Ignorant" and see the enemy. Some people have strong and willing hearts while others don't really care about what happens also known as "Ignorant". An example of ignorant would be "Kotler" from the "Boy In The Striped Pajamas"

I think we should still be learning about the book the Boy In The Striped Pajamas because these things might re-occur. It is also a good book because it is challenging and it also provides plenty of information about the Nazi time and the holocaust. Over all it is a great subject and probabaly the best unit we've took this year.

Void Post 3

Questions I'm going to choose (4, 7 and 9)

4. When the mystery paper was handed in i really wanted to open it to see what was in the paper. I thought it was going to be the end of the story, it was the end of the story but I thought something they would die in a different way. I opened it a bit after the correct time because i remembered when i was going to take out my binders from my bag.

7. Some of my predictions were correct because i didn't understansd what the black dot meant i thought it was a normal modern lottery where you win money but when i read the end i realized it was the opposite in some places. When i read the end I didn't really know some places have lotteries like that i felt kind of suspicious.

9. The author left voids in the story because he wanted us to think for a while and realize that some places the lottery isn't just about money its about sacrifice. He also put the void to make the story more interesting because when he puts the void people think and then they realize it all makes sense at the end.

Steve McCurry Essay

Introduction: About Steve McCurry
Steve McCurry is known for his photography another thing that he is known for is the picture of the Afghan girl. His pictures are about life and how people are suffering and some of the pictures are about joy, his photographs are very colorful. He has graduated from the college of Arts and Architecture in Pennsylvania State of university. Before he became a photographer he started working at a newspaper in India for two years. His career launched when he was disguised in native garb. ‘’It is more common to see a baseball hat and a Chicago Bulls jersey than traditional clothing in nearly every place I travel’’ I liked this quote because this quote is the quote for the picture I chose the quote means that not every body in Canada and America are rich and baseball players there are still poor people.
Part 2/3
The picture shows a boy about 12-13 years old in very dirty and ripped up clothes. His face has dirt on it, he had a jacket on and his shoes are grey and untied, the thing that really sands out for me is that he’s holding a wooden toolbox that is red with the numbers 228 written on it.
Part 4
Overall McCurry’s photos emphasize life, like human struggle and joy. His pictures are known for the colors and detail in them, the picture that he is known for is the Afghan girl. I learned many things from his photos like people that are in war try to survive and loose every thing. I also realized that he took some joyful places like New York. Some pictures are in successful like Canada but has people that are suffering. His pictures can make people ask them selves what they’re doing to the world and why are they doing it. I think that a great photo should have many colors a theme and something eye-catching, McCurry has done all those things in his photos. I think his work reflects to a journey because some of his work is about war which is part of life and similar to a journey.

Power of the Void 2

The composer could create a tension when its a forte and stop for three seconds and continue the forte. I think the audience will ask questions like what happend? Did they make a mistake? Why didn't they continue the forte? and did the song finish?

Power of the Void

The International School of Kuala Lumpur provides an exceptional education that challenges each student to develop the attitudes, skills, knowledge and (silence) understanding to become a highly successful, spirited, socially responsible global citizen.

I fell by adding the word (silence) and creates tension because the listener wants to know whats the speaker going to say next, also when you yo put the VOID newt to and they stop and think and when you tell them they're relaxed again.
